Disposing of flouresent tubes? Can they be recycled?

Hey everyone,

I have four old, well-used (probably over-used) T8 floresent tubes here that I want to dispose of. Because they contain mercury and maybe other gas I don't want to just chuck them in the bin or take them to the dump because mercury is toxic. Is there a proper way to dispose of them?

Also can they be recycled? Like have the gas drained or something and then it can be used to produce more flouresent tubes? I would prefer this than to just chucking them if it's possible.

Thanks,

Joe
