malawi_man
the stand is just a steel one painted black, i aren't going to put wood on it, i am thinking about making a mdf lighthood painted black so that i matches the stand. However i could make one with a natural finish but not sure how it would look with the black stand.

malawi_man
yea i was leaning towards something like yours, if mdf is painted it will be ok wont it?
Tanksman
Yea it will be fine - It encourages you to be careful with the water and avoid the furniture and floors. And it looks far better than cruddy old lights and wat not on top of the tank.
ryanjury
Painted MDF still soaks up water and swells it needs to be sealed as well as painted to avoid doing that.. If I was using MDF again id seal it or just use real wood..
malawi_man
ok, i am going to go for macrocarpa like you did peanuts. I am making it 200mm high and it will be in two sections, one at the front and one at the back. the front one will have a big hinge-top on it and the back one will hold the lights. now just need to build it
