smidey
Is there any formular or guide to how much air needs to be put into the water to maitain the oxygen levels? I have an attachment for my filter (filter that runs through a spraybar in the hood) that stops the air being pumped into the tank.
Caryl
You do not need to add extra oxygen in a well maintained and filtered tank.
smidey
thanks, i figured, its such a simple & straight forward answer that I could not find information on this in any books. Sometimes you just have to ask i guess.
Caryl
People add bubble walls because they like the look of them. They do not add 'air' to the water.
fishboi
People add bubble walls because they like the look of them. They do not add 'air' to the water. but when the bubbles pop on the water surface it does help the oxygen to absorb by braking the surface. but no bubble walls dont really do anything but look nice
suphew
They move the water suface which needs to happen to get the oxygen in but there are far better ways to do it.
Doug
so aslong as the filter outtake is breaking the waters surface tension you dont need to add any kind of air pump? I currently have an airstone in my little 20litre tank but the HOB filter would be enough oxygenation? Doug

alanmin4304
The natural exchange of oxygen in and CO2 out happens anyway and is improved, the greater the surface area available. The aeration ruffles the surface and increases the surface area making the exchange more eficient
Doug
kool, seeing as there is only one fish in there at the mo I might just take it out. Doug
