lowndsie
I have a spare 110 litre tank that I was hoping to setup and house just one or two interesting fish in it. I was planning on putting an oscar in there but I figured the tank was too small..... I just want some kind of fish with the personality of an oscar but maybe not the full size of one!!! Any ideas? evilknieval69
maybe you could buy a baby oscar and house it in there until it gets too big then get a 250L tank for it. Good excuse for a bigger tank Rogan
lowndsie
Good point....lol
sharn
110 litres is bit too small, 250 for one oscar is bare minmum IMO. what are the dimensions of the tank? i cant really think of any fish similar to an oscar in personality but smaller, but there are other fish that have good personality, but most arent owner responsive. i say sell that tank and use the funds to buy a 250L+ and get an O, you wont regret it
Cyberfin
You could make it into a cichlid tank, choosing from varieties that don't grow as large as an Oscar but with a similar nature. You could create the specific conditions found in one particular African lake or mimic African or South American rivers to accommodate fish found there naturally. I saw a South American cichlid tank containing mainly Blue's and Yellow's but other varieties were there, too. There was around 12 fish, all about 10cm (exl tail) in a tank around 80-100ltrs. Pretty crowded but was running with an external canister filter capable of filtering a much larger tank. Looked great
lowndsie
yeah i have a large cannister for it so filteration will be fine... I was thinking of maybe a firemouth because I read they only grow to 5 inchs!!! Just after something different I guess. How would a fully grown firemouth go in that size tank? SpidersWeb
Firemouth would be fine. They take a long time to grow to 6 inches as well. Firemouths aren't very interesting if you just have one though, so I'd recommend 2-3 males. If they're the same size, they'll be firing up their red gill covers all day They're generally not very aggressive either. I had them with neons, only reason I removed the neons was because they took too long to wake up in the mornings and as nice as the 12 cichlids were, floating food with a blue stripe that doesn't move is too much temptation. So if its slow and fits in the mouth, they'll eat it. I've got a tank of 7 juveniles, 6 are male, and they flock to the front of the tank and dance around like excited little puppies everytime I go near the tank, the adults in my other tank aren't quite as much fun but they're a little smarter and recognise the flake container Angels are another fish I like a lot, I've got six, and all have different personalities. Would love an oscar, and the gf wants a pair, but its a huge tank requirement.
