KP
Hello, my name is Kyle(son of Rossco). Currently studing engineering at Waikato University, and have found an excess 4 foot of space in my bedroom (took some time and effort to find this in my small flat ) So I'm gathering all the equipement at the moment. Here are the tanks: MAIN TANK: 1200Wide x 600Deep x 700High Corner overflow with two 32mm bulkheads. (1 full siphon and 1 emergency) Closed loop with a 32mm intake and 2x25mm outputs used to create flow under rockwork. SUMP: 700Wide x 500Deep x 450High Here is the main idea behind the design Here it is!! Will keep you posted as I progress through the build! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
wasp
Kyle that is Excellent! You did not mention that you designed it all yourself! Great Job!! Looking forward to following your progress.
KP
Thanks, thats not always a good thing designing your own   . I'm have yet to put any equipment in or plumbing. There could be some design flaws waiting to pop out. But really happy with the tanks. You can check out the prototype designs in my gallery (not pretty )
chimera
who made the sump? you? looks very professional! i see you mentioned the word 'plumbing' - hope you gotta BIG student loan i wouldnt feed the skimmer with a 1250, have your overflow feed go straight into the skimmer. the outlet from the skimmer is ok though although i'd have it go back to where the eheim 1250 is sitting in your picture. you will always find some other filtration device (cannister for carbon for example) to sit in the first section. KP
Greg Kingston (tanks2u) made the tanks. A really excellent job every thing is to spec. Good price aswell . Yeah havn't thought plumbing through much yet, waiting for cabinet to see the most effective way.
chimera
another suggestion, silicon in two horizontal glass or perspex 'mounts' half way down where the egg crate is going so it has something to sit on.

puttputt
Ran my APF600 with a 1250, perfectly matched. Both now available secondhand I believe
ghostface
go the syphon looking good man, keep up with the pics
KP
I would like to run the skimmer off the overflow, but I'm going to run a full syphon which I don't think would like being attached to a skimmer. Skimmers are very turbulent machines and would not have a constant back pressure. Full siphons are sensitive enough without tring to add in these factors. hazymranch
Engineering student, eh? Couldn't tell. Really, really nice work.
rossco
Yup, I believe his old man is in management. He's getting the engineering student to do the design, build the 'prototype', test run, iron the kinks out, then he will get engineering student to replicate for his own tank and then take all the credit!
