Duke
I have plumped my return through the wall and through the floor but have not glued it yet. Is it important to make sure the pipes are pushed together fully? I push the as hard as I can until they lock but who can tell? Is this good enough? Any gluing tips would be appriciated? All the 50mm return pipe work is hard piped, no way to sepearte once it is done as once the tank is full I won't be moving it.
cracker
If you are talking about PVC pipes, just glue to the inside of one surface, then the outside of the other and push in and rotate a little. Hold there for 30 seconds and it will have fused.
cracker
make sure its PVC glue though ay?
tel
remove all burrs on the pipes and use liberal 'pressure pipe glue'. primer is not really necessary as long as the surfaces are real clean and dry and normal acetone will achieve this. my piping seemed to go in @30 -50mm until it stopped but make sure you give it a 90 degree twist on the way in to guarantee no leaks.(at this point you need to hold it together for @ 1 min until it sets enough as other wise the joints tend to ''spit out'' the pipe) you will regret not using 'connector unions' in a couple of places as you will surely want to move, alter, clear or check for blockages or clean at some future point. chimera
Plumbing wont hold unless it's glued, do so as per crackers comments. You can also add union fittings to piping at certain locations so you can unscrew and remove sections if needed. Like this:
Duke
Will do... thanks What about the bulk head fittings? Did you silicon these to the tank?
wasp
They seem to be pretty leak proof, siliconed or not siliconed.
chimera
i usually use both the rubber gasket and silicon. i would use at least one or the other, but if i were to choose just one i'd go silicon. its as strong as glass once it dries. get the aquarium safe silicon too, fosroc rtv - and use the CLEAR one ONLY!
