Rainbow Shark going nuts.

Hi all.

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who has a 450 litre comm tank. About three months ago he got a Rainbow Shark ( Red Fin Black Shark). Last night ,after being fed ,the Shark went nuts and thrased around the tank in what seemed a panic. Since then it has been staying still alot and 'shivering' from time to time. Then it'll get a burst of energy and go nuts again.

If anyone has any idea what could be wrong please post.

Cheers.

Nope no idea, I have one in my community tank. The closest he comes to exhibiting behaviour like that is a couple of quick 'laps' at the front of the tank just after feeding and the occasional dash into shadows and stopping instantly just before colliding with a plant. Always just after feeding, I put it down to him feeling energetic after getting food.

Doesn't sound good what your friends shark has got...what was the food he gave?

He fed with live baby brine shrimp , bloodworm and flake which is what the tank is always fed with. The bbs is a weekly treat and we were thinking maybe they might have still been a little salty?? My mate reckons they were well rinsed but ....

All the tank mates are fine.

maybe it was the brine shrimp, I feed flake and blood worm to my community tank, but I don't do brine shrimp....other people might have more experience with brine shrimp...maybe they can tell if salt can cause a reaction like that.

good luck!

Thanks ppl.

My mate put his shark in a hospital tank but it didn't get any better and it died last night. :(:( We still don't know what its problem was but its 'nose' lost pigment and went white the day before. It wasn't fungus 'cos it didn't look furry. The tank mates are still fine.
