rnbo
How do you know when the impellor of the filter pump is worn and needs replacing?? I have an Eheim 2213, output is really down but have done all the usual maintenance.... Any ideas?
Caryl
Usually it gets noisy I think. I don't have one of those filters but the Fluvals get noisy, or the impeller breaks.

Ira
Usually low flow means it's time to clean it. Worn impellers seem to have little effect on the flow.
rnbo
Hi Ira, All cleaned, sponges rinsed clean, top filter rinsed clean, media given a good swish in tank water. Sponges and topfilter fairly new....no kinks in hoses, no air locks...still low output :-? hence the thought about the impeller
Caryl
Have you checked the hoses for blockages?
alanmin4304
When the flow on my eheim drops off it is often that the pipes are full of crud and a good flush through restores the flow.
chimera
Worn impellers seem to have little effect on the flow Not necessarily Ira!!! For example, an eheim 1060 would have little impact, an eheim 1048 would have huge impact. why? because of the way the impeller is designed in different models. in this case, the eheim 1060 has the impeller and magnet always spinning together (coz they're stuck together) whereas the eheim 1048 the impeller spins separate to the magnet. When water flows through it, the impeller moves away from the magnet. Both the impeller and the shaft are 'keyed' which then lock together and spin. If its worn, only the magnet spins and the impeller moves slowly, causing the rattling noise... ...which means thinking about what I just wrote means I initially contradicted myself - they dont necessarily always rattle if they are worn depends on the make/model pump. rnbo
Well I'm embarrassed  to admit there was a ball of crud at the intake, couldnt see it till I took it all apart. Clean now and water shooting out of the spray bar... Yet another learning experience. Thanks for all your thoughts
