tel
looking at raehs thread , what % water change do you all aim to do and how often? also what do you feel is an acceptable nitrate level? my setup allows me to back my truck right next to my sump (@200 lts) in the garage. display (540 lts less rock) is directly above. this makes for real easy changes of up to 25%....keen to hear the diversity of opinion. also what is the gist on natural s/w storage ie; use immediately or store 4 weeks min etc...thanks
JoeBlog
I've been doing about 20% per week, but that's only because I'm cooking my rock at the moment. I normally do ~10% weekly. As for nitrate, I don't want any reading on my Salifert kit, i.e. perfectly clear. As for NSW storage, I have no clue since I use ASW. reef
I used to do when ever for water changes, some times every 4 months, but at the moment doing weekly to see if there are any benefits. Use Red sea salt.
JoeBlog
Reef, I thought you were going to give me heaps of sh!t for my zero nitrates comment. Don't you shoot for very low, but still positive?
reef
I aim for nitrates below 5-10ppm. Nothing tells me zero has any benefits. Corals utilise nitrates especially clams. I want to make sure I don’t get the pastel look in my tank. Some nitrates do give you richer colours.

SteveA
400L once a month on a total system volume of about 2200L. I have 29 fish (6 @ 10cm+) and feed daily but all food is hoovered in a couple of minutes. Haven't done a water test in several months.
