PENEJANE
Hey there I was wanting to know if perspecs is ok to make tanks out of? Reaons for this is that I was going to make a tank up with a number of dividers to house the male bettas (if I manage to breed them!! lol) I was thinking that with it being perspecs that we can drill holes in it to allow for water current. How quickly would perspecs go off? (like yellow and crack/brittle). Its just to house the male bettas as I am then able to offer them more space as I don't agree with jaring but if this doesn't work then I kinda have no choice hehe Cheers
Pegasus
Hi Penny, From what I have heard and read, making a tank of Perspec is a pretty daunting task.. as you have to get the edges either specially machined or Laser cut so that you get a perfect edge to edge seal. A cheaper alternative might be the small 18ltr tanks that someone was mentioning recently from the Warehouse. They worked out about 12 bucks I think.. and I recon that the Perspec plus the cutting and the special solvent to seal it would cost you a fair bit in the long run. Bill. suphew
You would be better to buy a 3 or 4 foot tank and put deviders in to it
BK
I'm with Suphew on this one but perspec are good for dividers and you can drill them for water movement.
PENEJANE
Awesome. Just that getting glass done for a 3-4 ft tank is still going to cost me around the $90 mark which is just a bit much for right now. The jars that I was looking at were at least 1ltr each. This was at the $2 shop so very easy to get bulk. I am hoping that when I get my fish room (spare room) sorted that it will be at a maintained temp so then I can put the cookie jars in there with out the required heater. Just that to me the jars provide more space than the stick to the tank betta dividers. Cheers though for your replys
alanmin4304
I did a bit of work years ago with perspex and it can be OK to work with. It can be bent by heating in hot glycerene and the glue used is perspex dissolved in chloroform. It works as a solvent glue like gluing PVC. I made what you are looking for out of glass and RTV. I made a tank 600mm x 600mm and another shallower tank to fit inside it but 50mm shallower. Divide the smaller tank into 50mm x 50mm squares and put stainless steel mesh on the bottom and a couple of straps on the top so it sits inside the larger tank but clear of the bottom. You do an instant water change by lifting the tank half way and letting it settle again. Fighters develop good fins this way because they are always "showing" to neighbours and you are not so tempted to sell them early because of the drag of water changes in 127 jars. PENEJANE
Any chance of a diagram of this or picture if you still have the tank so I can show my husband and hopefully he can help me make it Sounds like an awesome idea. Really got me thinking. Cheers
