reef Posted March 9, 2006 Report Share Posted March 9, 2006 let the tank mature and find the source that is adding the nutrients. Vodka is not a thing to play around with until you gain more experiance to notice when to adjust dosing. vodka will also help the growth of bad bacteria as it is not selective in which bactaria it feeds. Like i said get biodigest its a bactaria that will clean your tank. quite a few people are starting to use it and all have said that it has really cleaned the tank. chimera Posted March 10, 2006 Report Share Posted March 10, 2006 i agree with reef, the idea is to let your tank go through these stages so you get the right levels of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria growing in your tank. they will build up slowly - dont try and rush this process too much by putting in additives yet. also your rock will go through various stages of unwanted algae over the next 6 months, and even beyond that! just let everything settle in first naturally! would not bother with a TDS meter if you have a new RODI unit, i almost guarantee the water is pure, a TDS meter is more important to know when to replace the filters. my TDS meter still shows 75 in, 0 out - and i havent changed filters for over a year!
