I have not been doing this long, but in the last 3 days i've had 2 fish with white spot, 1 which has died. I now have 1 that may have Dropsy...One pet said it was and the other thinks it is constipation. So we will try the 2 drops of epsom salt and see if that works and it is constipation. Symptoms protrusion of eyes and pinecone abdomen

Hi Mitch,

Welcome to FNZAS, you have come to the right palce to have all of your Fishy questions answered.

Great to have you here.

The symptoms that you are discribing are sounding very much llike dropsy, there is no known cure for dropsy, you would be better off putting your little fishy out of it's misery.

If you think your fishy is constipated try feeding it/them shelled peas, i just poor boiling water over the peas and leave them for a few minutes then pop them out of there shells, then feed to the fishies.

Sorry to hear that you have lost some little fishies.

Did you cycle this tank before adding fish to it, this is a most important step in keeping fish.

Good Luck

Lynda

Hi Mitch & welcome :bounce:

Sorry about your loss, and the symptoms you describe are that of dropsy & unfortunatey, like Lyndyloo said...no cure...that I'm aware of.

Give us some more info on your tank, like size, how long you have had it, how many fish, etc.

Take care & know that the people on this forum are always eager to help!

Hi Mitch!

A warm welcome to the forum from us too! :D

Sorry to hear about your losses!

I am not sure why everybody says that there is no cure for dropsy - I've read in several places that it is VERY hard to cure but not impossible?! Maybe I am wrong hoping there is a cure :-?

Anyway, have a look at this topic:

Maybe you find something I wrote there about treating dropsy useful :)

Sorry to hear that, Mitch! I hope your other fishes are doing fine, Mitch! Good luck :)

Caper, no worries - I am sure there's a lot of people that would consider dropsy incurable as well... I just like to believe in those few instances where it actually has been cured. I guess, it really depends on the strength of the fish, an early diagnosis, a correct treatment and obviously a lot of luck! Our Guppy is still hanging on even though the initial signs of getting better are slowly fading away now
