malawi_man
ok well pics 3,4&5 look like copadichromis to me, the top one some kind of aulonocara sp.
JoandWilly
i'd say pics 1 and 3 both come from the same family of fish they have very similar body shapes and there colouring is onnly slightly different. pic 5 has a different body shape and is some that we brought off rob whatever he has breed, trying to id the 3 of them. Have you seen the rediculous price for the boreyli on trademe... $98 bucks.

JoandWilly
Hmmm no they look nothing like what is labelled electric blue on cichlid forum, the closest i can find for the top 4 pics are the 3 links i put up. But so far haven't seen anything that resembles the bottom fish. Trying to id them before i sell them so they have a name to go with. JoandWilly
I think with the top to I'll just call them auloncara sp as they have the shape but for the bottom one i'll just call it a Copadichromis sp since thats what you think it is dan and they are probably all hybrids anyways.... im pretty sure the bottom one is that rob breed. JoandWilly
i'll try get one a bit later on, but for shipping fish im at home alone all day and dont have a car or my license so you'd have to arrange for a courier to pick it up from here. Caryl
There are so many hybrids out there
JoandWilly
I dont like all these dirty old hybrids.... flowerhorns and parrots and all that are just ugly man made creatons, its a shame the cross breed, breaks lines that couuld otherwise be awesome fish.... nothing wrong with selective breeding but cross breeding is horrible. Tanksman
Sometimes crossbreeding could happen due to an aquarists enthusiasm and neglecting to know any better. It depends how much and how fast someone can learn the hobby but having access to this forum is a good place so hopefully a few less fish will be housed together and a few less Hybrids around. _Mongrels?? JoandWilly
hmmm its only partially due to in-experience, alot of it is when females get mixed up as most of them are dull brown or grey colours and they are very ahrd to identify, the other part of it is people actually wanting to cross breed them for colours, fins, shapes etc. Cross breeding just really annoys me in everything, dogs, cats and even cows!!! Tanksman
What about in People? I think so long as the pure / pedigree species can be maintained there is not alot wrong with having Hybrid vigour in the nations commercial dairy herd's. Don't know much about Sheep and Beef so... Tropheus
I say they all hybrids. Cross between Copadichromis and Aulonocara species. Where did you purchase the first 4 (pics)? and how much can I ask?. As for the Copadichromis on TradeMe $55 is cheap. Ive seen this fish and its offspring and they look awesome. At least this fish is pure. If you want good breeding stock then you pay for it. Its always better to do your homework before you buy. What pisses me off is when you go down to your LFS and you see a tank full of Aul. species and you read a sign listing 4-5 different Aul. in one tank, how on earth are you suppose to pick the females. You have a one in five chance to get it right and if you dont "HYBRIDS" If I where you I would bite the bullet and distroy them. If you sell them some one will just end up breeding them again. JoandWilly
Yeah i know what its like in the lfs with the peacocks, i would never buy any unless they were from a breeder and weren't hybrids, these came with a whole bunch of fish we brought and have held on to them till now, just selling them as someone might want them for a display tank.
