Had two power cuts in the last 6 months only lasted 2 hrs each but gets you worried. Or is it over kill?
slappers
i think people with big tanks with heaps of corals and fish maybe but just us weee guys IMO i will not bother but everyone to there own
suphew
I think the Bunnings ones are cheaper and have higher output. I'm thinking about getting one, but might get a UPS from work instead. UPS would be free and I wouldn't need to do anything, like be there when the power cuts out, but a geni would be last a lot longer and be far more useful for other things. Hmmm maybe I will get both..
skuzza
If they can survive the ride from overseas to here then an overnight courier to the pet shop i am sure they can do a few hours in a power cut.
jetskisteve
Be careful the 550w might be max??
Ira
The bunnings ones are 750w max, 550 sustained. Or somewhere close to that. Either way, heaps to keep the circulation going on even a really big tank.
jetskisteve
Yep I have one for my Buff (work) its a GMC cost $99 For my tank i have a gruntier one cos the majority of power cuts seem to be in winter My sumps outside
Sharkey
How much are the bunnings ones? And were can you get a GMC one? Looks like good prices to me. I live in the country so its just for piece of mind. With the last power cut everything was ok but its not a good felling watching your tank slowly die. Ira
They're 2 stroke though, which is a bit of a pain in the butt, so you'll want to get some 2 stroke oil and everything. Adds a few bucks.
suphew
cause you cant buy 4 stroke chainsaws I decided years ago to only buy 2 stroke machines, makes life so much easier. But would be interested to know if running a 2 stroke geni for hours on end would cause a problem, maybe with heat or plugs getting oiled?? Anybody know? The last power cut I had was all night long, but luckily I had a UPS running at the time (dead now) and a small tank so it was ok, I have alot of big trees have been waiting for one to fall onto my power lines, the last big storm the houses on either side of me lost power and phone for a couple of days because of trees coming down. I actualy have a tree fallen over my walking bridge at the moment which I will have to remove when I get back to NZ.

Ira
I've run mine for maybe half an hour. I need to get a big can of petrol mixed up for it and ready to go though.
