After lots of planning spending and building my tank is almost fully operational, this thread is sort of teh follow on of the last one which was more of a planning and getting ideas/opinions.

The tank for those that didnt follow theprevious thread is a 120 gallon tank

1200Lx600hx700w

The front and sides are with diamante glass (nice and clear)

This thread will basicly track progress and events in the new tank.

First event was last night as i was installing the new sump.

Took out the old one without a hitch, i put in the new one and started filling it up, after a certain point i noticed that the water level wasnt raising above a certain point which should have set off alarm bells, but nothing registered untill i felt some water on my hand and hello i noticed that i hadn't put the ball valve on the hansen fitting where the skimmers external pump is going. So after some help from my wife (who now knows what a ball valve is) and some salt from slappers (its good that there are some reefers down in the tron) i managed to fix that and get everything connected. (only about 20litres on the floor)

i then put in the skimmer and was about to crank it but then remembered i hadnt gotten any plugs to replace the ones on the pump from singapore (which will be put on tommorow).

If you can imagine a little child on christmas morning opening the presents and then having them taken away only to be told he cant have them for a few days then you might understand my state of mind

3.75 litre to the US gallon.

4.85 something for a british. if i remember correctly

so if you have an US 120 gallon that would be 450 litres (4foot*2foot*2foot) but who still works in feet anyway?

knowing your tank is about 1200mm*600mm*700mm that would make it 504 litre (134.5 gallon - US that is or 103.9 Birtish gallon)

thanks god most countries now use metric!!! :hail:

From what I see online everyone uses gallons. I have even started. 79G tank with 2000gph pump, I hate to have to convert things but I dont think its gonna change any time in the near future.

We use metric. Gallon is meaningless and just confuses the issue for many of us. Jezzz next you will be saying your tank is 5/16ths of a fathom deep.

Its all well to say that its usless, but as that is what the majority of reef keepers do, it makes sense to have a vague idea of things.

You could go with fathoms - but its easier to go with inches.

So Pies tell me, what would your standard response be if someone asked how tall you are? :o

A hundred and eighty five centimeters or not quite 2 metres.

The majority of human beings speak mandarin but I see no reason for me to start just because they do. These same people subsitute s for z in lots of their words and call their mother mom. No good can come of imitating Americans.

Use metric. All you base are belong to us.

sorry slappers (ill bring you back some salt on saturday :D

i just snapped some pics the water is a little cloudy at the moment (not enough skimming as there was no skimmer on the tank the last few days)

i have however conquered the micro bubbles so with the absence of the bubble and the diamante glass i managed to get some nice clear pics of a few corals, something i never managed to do with normal glass (even only with four mm)
