Tony.Bates
Hi All, I have several clown loaches in my tank (215l) - and they keep vanishing - for days at a time! the tank is not heavily planted, and they cant be getting out (because they turn up eventually) Do Clown Loaches bury themselves? Any thoughts appreciated! Luke*
No they don't bury themselves, however they are very resourceful at finding hiding places. When I had 3 clowns i hardly ever saw them, with 6 they come out all the time, they are much more confident in larger groups as they are social fish. I had a couple of pieces of slate lying on the bottom of the tank and two of them had managed to squeeze in to some tiny gaps. They are also more active at night. Hope this helps
Faran
Agreed, the same goes for my 3 yo-yo loaches. With a large number of bottom feeders they WILL learn to come out during daily feedings, but some will simply hide until night and eat whatever scraps are left over. How many clown loaches do you have, exactly?
Caryl
I seem to remember someone claiming fish were able to travel to other dimensions and this is where they go when you can't find them
Luke*
Is that the 4th dimension Caryl?
Caryl
Quite possibly Luke but having never followed them, I would not like to speculate 8)
Ira
For several weeks I'd have periods where I couldn't find mine anywhere in the little hex tank he was in and then he'd suddenly be there. I couldn't figure it out. Then I had an idea, the outlet from the cannister filter ran fromunder the tank, through the base up to near the surface and was just an open pipe...I disconnected the outlet hose from the filter took a deep breath and blew into it as hard as I could(It was about 4 feet of head) and after a foosh and a splash there was very startled looking clown loach swimming around in the tank. LYNDYLOO
Yes, they very good at hiding, 1 of mine disappears for the whole day, and only comes out at night, I have since discovered the he lives in the handle of a lantern ornament that I have in the tank, sometimes I really wonder just how he fits in there, he seems to be quite a bit bigger than the handle of the Lantern. I'm sure he is going to have to find another hiding place soon or he's gonna be getting himself/herself stuck. :bounce: Lynda

Feelers
When I was young we had a clown loach in a tank with a gravel bed, and he used to dig into it (I saw him a few times). We thought it had died - we didnt see it for about a year (and this was in a ~ 60L tank), and then one night I saw it going up and down and along the length of the glass, backwards and forwards for ages. A very cool fish
