Caryl
If you are talking poos then you are talking s**t  I thought fish poo was supposed to be stringy but if it is slimy and stringy it indicates a problem. Add sunken bellies and I would suspect internal problems. White or yellow and slimy indicates intestinal flagellates and ciliates If the fish keeps trailing around a long slimey thread it can also be the flagellates or worms. Have a close look at the poo under a microscope and see if you can see worms or eggs in it. Ain't fishkeeping fun? 8)
dogmatix
Stringy poo's and sunken bellies is a classic sign of intestinal worms you need to give them a bath in a bucket of aquarium water with the correct amount of wormer. For example if you have a 20l bucket get 1 X drontal plus tab from your petstore or vet for a 10kg dog, Cush this and add it do the water. Add all the fish from the tank to the bucket and leave for 45-60 minutes, swirling the water once in between. Catch all the fish place them back in the tank (NO NEED TO ACCLIMATISE) leave for an hour then top the tank up again HTH Ben
Pegasus
Another point is... "What are you feeding your fish"..? Often when people feed a lot of live foods it tends to act as a laxative, and eventually (although the fish seems to be feeding).. it runs straight through them, and so is not giving the fish any nutritional value, which would account for the sunken bellies. Just another thought... but it is probably one of the faults mentioned above. Hope you can sort it. Bill.
JoandWilly
hmmm dont feed them live foods... pellets and then every so often a peice of zuchinni or spinach. tried the worming tablet with one fish and did nothing still had the same sypmtoms and then died, but think that was cause it wasnt eating and went 3 weeks without food... Im pretty positive if anything its flagellates have never seen worms or anything. Everything i've read points to it but since they only way to treat that is with metridonazol (sp) its hard to get cause its a prescription med only. Maybe I could try sweet talk the docter on wednesday.

djoon7
stringy poo is a sign of constipation, means you should vary the diet a bit and add some roughage etc.
