wasp
My tank is upstairs, it's around 75 gallons counting the sump. I'm wanting to upgrade to around 130 gallons, just wondered if there is someone in these parts with the skills / knowledge, who could drop in & have a look and tell me if the weight will be OK where it is. reef
I am no expert, but at about 500kg i cant see why it would be a problem as the load will be spread across the floor.
wasp
OK, well you've seen the tank, the new one will be going in the same place. It's near a load bearing wall, but not right on top of it.
reef
Should be ok as there sould be bearers spaced every 500mm or so under the floor boards.

wasp
Thanks for dropping around Craig. ( For those who don't know Craig was a builder, now he's a tree chopper man! ) Anyhow looks like I can proceed, I'm still just mulling over what I want as Craig tells me I have to put it in a slightly different place than where I had wanted to, so be a little while yet. chimera
Should be ok as there sould be bearers spaced every 500mm or so under the floor boards. there wont be bearers spaced 500mm apart - that would be one solid (and expensive) house the joists will be though my tanks sitting about 200mm off a bearer and on the corner of a pile. i added another post at the other corner of the tank just to be safe! Brianemone
not to sure if it was yor decision (or your wifes ) to have the tank upstairs but with a larger tank wont you get tired of lugging up the water and then back down?? plus its not like there's a nice couch up there where you can relax and look at the tank. (just a thought)
wasp
As you have correctly surmised, it's one of the joys of being married :-?
Brianemone
lol. my wife doesnt mind me spending the cash or time on the tank but i have to make something that looks good in the apartment otherwise i'd have to hide it away, imo a tank in the lounge is very relaxing
