cracker
Sorry, but whats RO/DI again? Top off flitering media to allow pure water to enter your tank when your tank evaporates. There is a lot of crap in top off water, especially town supply.
chimera
RO/DI reverse osmosis / deionisation. different methods of filtering out crap from the water.
HelifaxNZ
I thought it was something like that. Yep my tank does have diatoms and it is starting to form on the glass. I'll have to get a magnetic cleaner soon! Can you guys let me know what the following creatures are... This definately looks like an anenome. It has tenticles like one, but it is translucent. When I had the MH on it was wide open and now with the blue lights it has closed. Is this a safe one to keep? The next looks like a polyp. Thanks in advanced. P.S. does anyone know where I can get some turbo snails (for the diatoms)?
wasp
Not quite sure but that top pic looks like something you don't want. The next pic is likely a palythoa, that's something you do want. He looks like he is not getting enough light. He does not need feeding, but if you can feed him (tiny bit of fish food) he will grow and multiply faster. I can give you some snails, not the ones commonly called turbos, a smaller one, but will eat diatoms. Be warned though, fast as the snails eat the diatoms, they will come back, until you have skimmed away the silicate from your water.
HelifaxNZ
Thanks Wasp. Most appreciated. Here's something that REALLY SURPRISED ME.... What is it??? Is it safe to keep? I'm just amazed at what is popping up since I added the sand (probably a co-incident). Cheers
wasp
It's a bristleworm. They used to be regarded as bad, but now they are regarded as harmless scavengers. Where did you get these living things? Have you introduced some corals, or how?
HelifaxNZ
These are all coming out of the Live Rock I got from Jetski! It's just amazing what I'm finding each day. Exciting!
wasp
Cool yes. But you should talk to Jetski about that top one, might be best to get rid of it now.
HelifaxNZ
Hmm.. Yes Jetski did say there was a type of anenome that he noticed on one or two of his LR that should be removed. I'll definately check with him. Thanks Wasp. I may go down to Taka again on Saturday arvo to collect water to do a water change. Are you keen again? or is it too soon for you? cracker
The main problems with Aiptaisia, is they can sting other coral. But if they are nowhere near a coral it dont natter. I know heaps of reefers who have them and dont worry about it.
Brianemone
they have a very powerfull sting can will kill almost any coral other than mushrooms. i dont like them because they are ugly
HelifaxNZ
Is it possible to just use a knife and cut it off the LR?
