Brianemone
ira is anti sps remember i have no doubt the streams are worth the money, its just tough to fit in the extra$$ one off. just like a deltec, sure id love one but i dont keep a spare 1200$ floating around for miscilaneous fish tank equiptment. interested to see if the prices come down with the advent of the competition (those vortex things)
lduncan
Reliability, versatility, flexibility and power all in one convienant package (Tune, can I have a job?). I can see it now. Pies modelling tunze equipment :
misnoma
Purely as a comparison, 4x6000L/h Seios, $600, 2x12000L/hour Streams + Microcontroller = $1300 (pricing from overseas). So it's twice the price, but you get all the wanky features (and less pumps in the tank) Not endorsing either, was just an interesting exercise
lduncan
Not having to hit the pump for it to start... priceless! Layton

Pies
I can see it now. Pies modelling tunze equipment The 80s were cruel, I can assure you I am much better looking now. Not having to hit the pump for it to start... priceless! LOL So it's twice the price, but you get all the wanky features Not sure I would call a pump starting when you turn it on 'wanky', but hey, some of us have different expectations than others. Seios are funny. Infact anything you have to hit/kick to make start is funny. . Pie

misnoma
Heh, they're good, silent and don't need hitting. Just not quite grunty enough for my tank, so I'm considering other things
Pies
Ahhhh see, the power of the veritile streams comes into play. The Seio work out poorly if you have to replace them with Streams anyway "For sale, Seio power head, perfect working order, DIY whacking stick included (its a brick taped to the end of a broom handle)" Incidently the bricks are high in Iron, thus starting your pumps and colouring your corals at the same time Pie

Ira
I dunno, what's the value of a whack? How many whacks is $700 worth? Say one whack, if necessary which isn't garaunteed, is worth $1. And like I do you turn the powerhead off on average once every 2 weeks. That means it requires about $26 whacks per year per seio. For 4 that's $104 of whacks per year. So, that's 6 years, 8 months and 2 weeks before the Tunze pays for itself in not requiring whacks to start. Now, that's if ALL of the seios require whacking. It looks like at least half of the seios don't need whacking, so based on that you'd get 13 years 5 months before the tunze's no whacking comes out ahead. chimera
and with the inflated price of whacking sticks these days, the tunze is looking better value for money every day
Ira
Yeah, even for a $20 whacking stick though that would decrease the per whack cost to about $.50 since you wouldn't be getting your hands wet or anything. So 4 whacks every 2 weeks at $.50 for a $680 difference means 13 years before the tunze pays for itself or 26 years at 2 whacks every 2 weeks. Doc Holiday
I haven't had to give mine a whack yet(my aqua one powerhead won't go without a good whack though) but it's the constant whining that bugs me. the tunze streams are a far superior product and I'm sure when the budget allows it I will purchase a couple. but for now I'll have to just put up with it. Maybe if it bugs the wife enough I'll get the streams earlier (whine baby whine)
