Surface "skimming" without an overflow to a sump

So.. I have a tank with no sump, which means I get buildup on the surface of the water, which I don't like.

I found this when having a search on the net, wondering what people's thoughts were on it, possible issues etc.

I'm running a deltec MCE600 hung on the back of the tank, so this mod looks possible, just wondering what risks I would run, i.e do I hit issues if enough water evaporates and no water runs into the overflow box.

dont worry about the build up. it should go once the tank matures .

Once the tank has been running and you build up enough bactaria in the tank it should sort out the proteins in the tank.

You could add some bactaria like prodibio which will speed things up and it can be dosed weekly to help remove organics.

My tank has been going for years and still gets that buildup. I use an Eheim surface skimmer on one of my cannisters. Works a treat. Atman did a cheap copy but I don't think they do them anymore. I found it worked better than the Fluval.

I use a fluval surface skimmer about $40 on my current skimmer.

But I think you can get a surface skimming attachment for a deltec MCE600.

(said it inproved performance by up to 10%)\\

Reefcentral tends to disagree, as does the rest of the internet unfortunately. (about availablilty :) )

Had a couple of ideas this morning, that might also go a long way to helping hide stuff in the tank, so will have a play once the gf comes back with the car and I can go shopping :)

It looks like most of the stuff on the top is actually geting created by stray bubbles coming from the skimmer (there are still quite a few).

Would kind of make sense I guess, just need to wait longer I guess (or so I've read) for the skimmer to stop leaking bubbles back into the tank and see from there.
