petplanet
Ok, I have concreted rocks together before and am thinking of doing it again to custom shape some rocks. I have heaps of small rock chunks which I was going to bleach (to remove all the dead organic stuff) and then mix them with concrete and shape. Any suggestions or tips? Brianemone
there are a few recipes around
petplanet
I found this one which uses argonite sand. Would cost the same to buy rock in NZ. http://www.garf.org/newreef/arag.html I was also thinking of using volcanic rock. Heaps of them around Mangere Bridge. I thought I could drill them to create an open structure and they are porous so should be great for bacterial growth.
cookie extreme
volcanic rock contains lots of metals and other impurities which leak back into your tank when it comes into contact with saltwater.
lduncan
volcanic rock contains lots of metals and other impurities which leak back into your tank when it comes into contact with saltwater. There's a little irony in that statement.

Just a thought - if it doesn't hold PO4 does that mean its not porous and therefore not very good at filtration either ? Is there any more info linked to that pic which might address this question ? I would say that it is not good as your main filtration due to not being porous. You could mixed it with rock or place some rocks in your sump.
