HelifaxNZ
Hi folks, I've been looking around the hardware stores for plumbing for the tank I'm designing, and I havent seen anywhere these flat nozzles for the return pipes. Do any of you use this type of system to direct the flow? Where can I get them from? Many thanks HelifaxNZ
wasp
You can get in a lfs if you want to spend megabucks. An easy alternative is to get a normal pvc pipe, heat it, then put in a vice and squeeze to the desired thickness. Allow to cool, and you just made your own custom flat nozzle. Pies
Ask Chimera, he found an Auckland suplier of the 'snap loc' or 'flexi loc' or whatever ther are called, they make the spade end thingies you are looking for. Pie
Brianemone
do you mean like a spray nozzle?? i think Blackwoods & Paykels are supposed to carry some Loc line parts (nice spray nozzles like steve has)
HelifaxNZ
Thanks for the tip, but the only issue is you would probably want a 4-5cm wide opening on one end, and on the other a 1.5cm hole.
HelifaxNZ
I must go and have a look at Steve's setup. Just looked up Blackwoods & Paykels and they are just around the corner from where I work, so I might pop over tomorrow. Thanks.
Brianemone
might pay to look on their website and get the ####s cause chances are they will not have any idea about what your looking for
wasp
If you heat and squeeze a pvc pipe, you just squeeze one end, not the whole thing.
chimera
hey, yes blackwoods and pykel's do have a very limited supply of them (I assume you work in albany? or a different branch?!) they had a very very small supply of 1/2" locline piping. no nozzles though unfortunately. Ask Chimera, he found an Auckland suplier of the 'snap loc' or 'flexi loc' or whatever ther are called, they make the spade end thingies you are looking for. sort of. i actually ended up getting the parts i needed through the marine depot order placed a while back. i got 3/4" (which did mean restricting flow back into the tank from the closed loops as the rest of plumbing is 1" - locline dont do 1" yet) however flow only (feels) marginally restricted. not a concern based on the convenience factor of being able to direct flow so easily with them! they are very expensive for what they are, but VERY convenient and i think very well worth it for a one off cost. i believe joeblog got some locally somewhere too? he also got some through the marinedepot order. makes me wish i ordered $100 worth and sold them locally for a small profit!!! reef
Do any of you use this type of system to direct the flow? No as they restrict the flow from the pump.
chimera
No as they restrict the flow from the pump. depends on the pump you're using. if only 3/4" outlet, then no restriction (the inner diameter of the locline is actually larger than 3/4" pressure pipe) if you were using 1" like i did, then obviously yes. again, the benefits outweigh the reduction in flow,... IMO. try educators as well?
warick hearn
There's a plumbing place in franklin road (ponsonby) can't remember the name of it....but they have most things for plumbing a marine tank...andrew from jansens put me onto it when I was setting up my system.
