Caper
Guppy.... tail fin...almost looks like a small section has been "inflated", kinda like a tiny sausage can't think of any other way to describe it...sorry  And now it's like that part of the tail is going missing...from the outer end going in...I tried to get a pic but he wouldn't cooperate! Anybody any ideas...checked out stuff regarding fin rot but doesn't look like that? Okay pics...but not very good
Caper
Can anybody help...it is gettting worse...any suggestions please? Is it fin rot?
BK
Don't know what you have in the cold north but can't be much worst than the -2 degrees and snow in Chirstchurch. Try Melafix,Furan 2 produced by Aqarium pharmaceuticals, something to treat fungus should get read of it.
craig
hi' i have seen this off&on in quarinteen with guppies,we usually used furan with not to bad of result's, i see he has got quite skinny inbetween pic's. just make sure he doesn't have a dusky look to him, on the body. as my old boss would say "if in doubt take it out". good luck. Melanie
I had this happen with a guppy from Animates; part of his tail did fall off from it, and then subsequently grew back. Good luck.
Caper
Thanks I did a 25% water change today, took out carbon, and gave the first treatment of Melafix. I hope I wasn't too late The only thing with the Melafix the directions state to treat for 7 days followed by 25% water change. Obviously I leave the carbon out while treating but the only time it states to change water is at the end? I don't do a water change each day before treating???? Or do I???? Thanks again Oh...and Saturday we lost our power...it was off for 3 hours and 45 minutes...this is the first time it has happened since I got my fishies. I don't know if it had any bearing on my poor guppy but he got a lot worse since that happened?????
Caper
Obviously I leave the carbon out while treating but the only time it states to change water is at the end? I don't do a water change each day before treating???? Or do I???? Please see above post, please I don't know if I'm supposed to change the water again before I treat???? Poor Jim the guppy didn't make it Perhaps if I had the melafix as soon as it started I could have saved him I'm really going to miss this little fella. Jim and Slim were the first 2 guppies I had...they spent alot of time chasing and staring at each other...they were fun to watch Now that Jim is gone...should I finish the treatment just in case whatever got him is still in tank?????? Caryl
If it was just one fish, I am not sure I would keep up the treatment. To be honest, once a fish is exhibiting obvious sypmtoms of disease, it is often already too late to treat it.
Caper
So you don't think I should keep up the treatment...it was only the one fish I did treat again today (2nd treatment) because I wasn't sure if I should or not. So do I need to do a water change before I put my carbon filter back in? Do you think it was fin rot? It didn't get white on the end like I've read about and seen pics of...any ideas?? Caryl
No idea if it was finrot or not from the pics. Fin rot usually looks like the ends of the fins are going see through and raggedy then blood streaks form down the rays. Might as well do another water change, it won't hurt.
