Fay
I have given my son my fresh water set up, he would like to use my cabinet and replace the tank with a higher one so he can give the plants more room to grow he would like to make the tank 1220 x .400x 1mtr high is that o.k. to have the tank that high for the other dimensions. It was sad to give away my fish but something had to give to make way for the larger salt water tanks
Ira
Not sure how high the new one would be compared to the old one, I'm guessing the old was about 600 tall? So the new would be over 2/3 heavier. May get away with it, but just to be safe I'd suggest reinforcing it. Hard to suggest how without seeing how the stand is built, but just fitting some extra 2X4s tight in next to each support and nailing them there would do. If it's one of those black customwood ones it would be more complicated, probably best just to build or have a new stand built.
livebearer_breeder
Make sure the stand can handle it, if the glass is 10mm it should be fine with some serious bracing at the top. You'll need some serious lighting equipment, as if the whole purpose of making it taller is to grow the plants out, he will want to buy lighting that can penetrate the depth well. Caryl
When you reach that height you have to bear in mind 2 things; 1. Ease of reach 2. Lighting Cleaning a tank that deep is a pain. Anything over 45cm is harder for light to reach enough for plants. Has he thought of a tank with no lid? Then the plants can grow out the top and flower etc. Of course he would need to choose fish that didn't jump

BK
I have problems with growing plants in a tank I have 1.0 high. May be only half fill the tank and let plants grom out of water as stated above.
