How big do they get? I noticed a few tentacles on the far side of a big rock in my tank so climbed had to squeeze around the side of the tank so I could see it, only through a tiny area at the far side of the tank...

OMG! IT'S HUGE! Like the size of a $.50 coin across the mouth! I don't know how I'm going to kill it, I can barely even see it.

I ordered some along with some plecochips from petplanet.co.nz. Thanks for the offer though...If you stop in to any of the fish stores and see some nice tropical hermits though I'd love a few.;) Really need to head up to auckland, have a look around people's tanks and the fish stores...

Ok, got the joes juice. What kinda consistency is it supposed to have? It's about the same color and texture as milk...Except it's full of clumps that keep clogging the syringe! I was expecting something a bit thicker.

i have 6 or 7 really nice big beauties in my tank! funny that everyone that first comes around tells me i should kill them off! after explaining that they are a great food source for my copperband (not the big ones but all the babies) they all turn quiet. i guess that if one can keep them under control they are not bad at all.

Hi Guy's, I'm new around here but like you forum.

Cookie extreme, how long have you had your Copperband for ?. I'm having problems with aiptaisia in my tank and Peppermint shrimp or Berghia Nudibranchs are impossible to get here. Trying to control them with a chemical solution is a mission and I'm thinking of putting a Copperband in. Just worried that it will nip at my zoos's and any other polyps that look like aiptaisia. Have you had any problems ?

hi DragonReef welcome to this forum.

how long have you had your Copperband for

got him for approx. 6 months maybe a bit longer. only problems i had was the loss of all visible tubeworms he can reach. i also now make sure that i always have a couple larger aiptaisa in the system as my copperband does not touch the food i feed, but relies fully of whats in the tank. i got one because i was not able to get rid of my aiptaisa, tried KW paste (which burned one of my LPS), joes juice (expensive), hot water and so on. it seems i was able to kill the aiptaisa but within days new little ones sprouted where mum used to be.

i now have about 8 nice big ones which the copperband doesn't touch but no visible little ones anymore.

mine does not nip on any other corals at all, but this may be just luck! also my tank has a large population of little critters he shares with a scooter blennie.

Interesting threads of Reefcentral about the CBB eating corals. From what i've read, everyone lives in fear of them eating corals, but no-one anywhere has actually witnessed it. People were talking like its some sinister myth.

I killed all my Aipstasia with kalk, I had millions, and i'm not joking.

Nice fish, you must be doing something right to have kept it for so long. From what I understand if you can get them past 3 months, they go for-ever. I remember seeing one at Chris's on the north shore, I am sure he said it was close to 10 years old when he sold it!

Hey thanks for the welcome guy's. That's if I'm still welcome after the weekend when the Springboks beat the All Blacks in Dunedin :D Just kidding, we've never won at " The house of pain " !!!

Yeah I've been toying with the Copper Band idea for a couple of months now, and as Pies said everyone lives in fear of having their corals nipped at but the guy's I've spoken to who have them have never had a problem.

I've tried a few different "mixtures" for killing aiptaisia and have had varying results. Currently using something from Tropic Marin called Elimi Aiptais or something like that and works quite well. It's just so tedious and time consuming !!!

Think I'm going to give the Copperband a try. Pretty much looking for a showfish anyway.
