Dunno why, Layton is the only person I know who uses Draino. Personally putting drain cleaner in the tank sounds a little dangerous to me.

I use Kalk paste, i would say its 99% effective. And I put kalk in my tank every night so i don't worry about it, I don't dose draino regulary (or at all...).

Did the container say "100% sodium hydroxide" ?

What colour is the mixed solution?

You may get localised precipitation of carbonate due to the high pH. The clouds of white are not high pH or damaging, like they are with kalk mix.

It's won't kill the fish unless you squirted them directly. (Tank alkalinity takes care of it pretty quickly.)

it doesn't say 100% but the its a 500g container containing only 542g/kg Sodium Hydroxide and no other chenical so must be 109% sodium hydroxide then a  .

It looks like little beeds with a green colour.

The fish dont seem to be to bothered now i'm just worried about it blowing over all my corals and anemones i actually want to keep, i only used about 7mls.

That would be the wrong stuff. I'll try and find out what the green stuff is, but it may not be good.

If the label says 542g / Kg then it is only 54% sodium hydroxide.

The stuff white blowing around is harmless, just carbonate dust (same composition as sand). I'm worried about the green stuff, typically copper compounds are green. I'd be running some carbon in case it is. I'll see if i can find what the green stuff is. What brand did you use?

100% Sodium Hydroxide Draino is completely white in colour.

I typically use 0.1 to 0.2 mL per aiptasia.

Ingredients could be:

Sodium hydroxide..... 001310-73-2.........30-60 %

Aluminum..............007429-90-5...........1-5 %

Sodium nitrate........007631-99-4.........15-40 %

Sodium chloride.......007647-14-5..........7-13 %

The green stuff could be a denaturing agent (like the purple stuff in meths) to stop kids accidentally eating it.

If the ingredient are as above, nothing to worry about. (But i wouldn't be using it again)
