Euro-Reef Skimmer?

Hi has anyone got a euro-Reef Skimmer? From reading they sound good but want to hear from someone who has one. But while we are talking about Skimmers has anyone Modded a red sea Berlin. I’ve been playing with mine but can’t get a lot out of it. Have been reading about the amount of gunk we are supposed to be able to pull out of the tank and feel I could do better. My pump is a Via aqua rated at 2500 ltr per hour.

Ive been thinking about buying one. But i havent given up one the red sea Berlin "yet". I read this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... did=554786 And it gives me a little bit of hope. I have had my pump in the middle of a 144 Liter Sump looks like ive done it all wrong? There is some good advice on Skimmer setups here. :o I cant believe they get that much gunk?

If you are thinking of getting a Euro Reef skimmer, it might be worthwhile to check out ASM. They use basically the same design, but are HEAPS cheaper. On RC, there is a huge debate on which is best/better for the $. I am going to just order two Sedra 9000 pumps and add them to my Euro Reef DIY skimmer as recirculating.

Here is a link to about the cheapest place to purchase the ASM skimmers and also provides instructions on modification options: http://www.asmskimmer.com/

Here is a very long RC thread on ASM skimmers: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=426125&highlight=ASM+skimmer+club

Lastly, here is a link to an ASM FAQ's thread on RC: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=608439&highlight=ASM+skimmer+club

You need a far larger pump to run your berlin, they require 2000 odd liters at 3 meters head, not at zero head. The pump I'm using is rated at something like 5000lph at zero head, I get about 300-500ml of stinky black skim mate a week, from my total water volume of a little under 400liters and 7 fish.

I'm not sure how this compares to what I would get from a 'better' skimmer, if anyone would like to give me a euro-reef or ASM I'm happy to test it for them, hay I'll even take a deltec, in the name of science?!? :D:D:D

The euroreef and asm would be ok if they had decent pumps to run the needle wheel, The sedra pumps are rubbish as they are loud and not reliable like the eheims.

euro reef is still doing testing to find a decent pump to run the skimmers.

Would a needle wheel pump on the red sea skimmer be an improvement? I like the idea. Because it would be cheaper to run than a larger pump. The on going cost makes me think a different brand with a needle wheel skimmer would be more cost effective in the long run? And the technology seems so much more advanced?
