An update picking them up saturday the 21st, cant wait. I went and had a look yesterday and yes they are heathly, eating flake which my male wont touch, and bodys and fins where intact, and very alert, like any bueatiful catfish doesnt want to be seen, bloodly bogwood, any to excited not to share will post an update on saturday night and probably every night after that (not joke). The tank im gonna put them in is 5'*1'*1', filtered by a whisper filter , eheim pickup filter and a rena powerhead (1200 lph) with spray bar connected for the river like flow. I was going to put some guppys in as a dither fish, any ideas for dithers for this tank as i think the flow is to strong for the guppys andmaybe a bit to soft, ph 7.0 filtered gh medium to soft (water filtered through a little peat).

Hard to say if it's too much flow without seeing it, but when I had my swarm of guppies they didn't seem a bit bothered by the flow when I had a fluval 404 on a 100 liter tank. They'd swim in the flow from the filter. They were also quite happy in my tanks which I use rainwater, so I don't think it would be too soft for them.

Other than guppies...How about a few danios? Don't know how they'd do as dither fish, but they're pretty quick fish so shouldn't care about current.

Alls well, got them home after spending 1 hour double bagging each fish, plus 1 stubborn zebra that didnt wanna get out of his hole in the log :-? . Got them home and into their new home, they are all currently exploring every nook and cranny at the moment :D , already got them to eat some tetra bits, its amasing how time flys, I have just spent 6 hours watching them :o reason why this message is so late . I dont think im going to get a lot of sleep tonight, to much watching to be done with the night light on

  • 2 weeks later...

A couple of weeks gone by now and all is well. The new zebras are all eating very well, and putting some size on now. 5 days ago i added my male zebra to the tank and well hes even happier than i was, even he is eating better. All of the zebras have lost there shyness and will come out to eat whenever there is food is added to the tank. There favourite is of course bloodworm but will eat beefheart, tetra bits (color bits), fresh shrimp, shrimp pellets, and jbl nova tabs. I am going to put a powerhead in the tank in a couple of weeks time to see if they will breed for me (fingers crossed) and also to see the reaction to a swifter current. Ill kept adding updates opon doing this.

Hi Macka

Great to hear they have settled in so well ....... seems that most people experience the shy retiring ones because they don't have enough together maybe or is it the party atmosphere at your place

Just a thought

But then one of my friends has 5 that just seem to hide

might have to rethink things

Hi there Macca,

What a wonderful fish!

I've only ever seen 1 before and it was delightful.

It was 3cm long and the guy told me he had just paid $600.00 (Aust)for it.

This price has put me out of the market for this gorgous fish.

What is the going price in NZ?

I'm hopeing that the price will become a little more reasonable here in Australia.

As for the breeding of them have to postpone trial run due to moving, but i think I have 2 males and 4 females. 1 of the new zebras has isolated itself from the group and is getting rather hairy around the cheeks, as for the others they all hang around the male, I think these are females as they are generally ready before the male is :D

Thats a really good price, are they available right now? or do they have to order them especially? as one can never have enough :D If they can get them straight away let me know as my friend is after some. Sue and Craigs zebra page is a bit like a bible on zebras, it is very well known around the world, good to see a kiwi up there with this fish :D
