lduncan
Found these today. They are actually really small in comparison to other nudibranch's i've seen. 2-3mm in length, which i why i've never rally noticed them. Going to try an nuke them and any eggs with a iodine dip. May even have to resort to a copper dip, if they come back. Layton
Brianemone
where did you see them??? i noticed one of my montis if a it stressed (before the flatworms that is)
lduncan
They hang around at the edge of the tissue. They are really small, so you have to look carefullly.
lduncan
or sometimes on the underside of monti caps.
SteveA
So you could use them to keep those Montipora weeds under control then? Steve
lduncan
Not when the monti they are attacking is one of these:
Brianemone
well it looks like ive got some cause all the montis are now loosing tissue but my acro's are more than happy, havent seen them yet but im sure they are there
lduncan
You MUST do something about them now, if you want to have any chance of keeping your monti's. Regular Iodine dips. I've even done two copper dips. The recession has stoped, but they have almost killed both my big green monti cap, as well as the danae. I doubt that i have killed them, i'm sure they'll be back. These things are nasty! Layton
Pies
Frag and send to Wellington I'll send em back when you get it under control. Good luck Pie
Drifty
sorry to drag up an old thread, did you get rid of them and how so?
puttputt
Next to impossible. I've had them for a while, manual removal is an option I'm trying but lost my Monti cap, green engrusting, and trying very hard to save my orange cap at present. the best option is to remove all montis (every last bit) and leave them out of your tank for 6 months at least. this way the little beasties die off, and there eggs hatch and die etc and you can start fresh. I should have done this myself but my little orange cup monti is so nice. I thought I had them beat but had to siphon another 6 or so off it last night after not finding any for almost a month. puttputt
and I talked to layton when I got mine, he hasn't got rid of them......
ghostface
i have them on a monti about 6-7 months ago, they started eating it from the middle - i noticed a white patch in the centre of it, which kept getting bigger - they were all underneath it. i just removed the monti altogether [its still outside on the porch]. i have just added another one, hopefully there are none left in the tank. lduncan
Still got them. I just end up taking all my monti's out of the tank every month or so, and check them underneath and blast any eggs and nudi's with saltwater to get rid of them, and keep their numbers down. They always seem to come back. I've tried freshwater dips (which monti's REALLY don't like), light copper dips, iodine dips. The monthly removal seems to keep them from totally over running and killing the corals they are on however. Lucky most monti's grow so quickly. puttputt
Where did you pick them up from drifty, in the same shop we met in last month??. I'm sure thats where mine came from.
Drifty
I'm not sure where they came from
wasp
Layton you sure these things are 2-3 mm long? Not sure if I've got them, whatever I'm looking at is smaller than that.
Drifty
mine seem longer, 5-7mm maybe
wasp
Thanks Drifty ( Where's Layton when I need him !  ) Whatever I've got can't be it then, nowhere near that big. Two of my montipora have developed some pale patches over the last few months & I've been worried about this, and sometimes have been able to see some little tiny white things in the area, too small to make out properly. Perhaps I'm paranoid & they're just a bit of detritus.
Fay
I had them kept picking them off then they just went I was thinking maybe my 6 line wrasse ate them. I broke up the Monti into clean bits and they are looking good now..
Drifty
must get myself another sixline
lduncan
( Where's Layton when I need him !  ) Graduating, dining, and drinking The biggest ones I ever saw were 2 to 3mm long, the eggs are much smaller, so I guess they could range in size from that of the egg up to a least 3mm Layton
puttputt
yeah, they can range in size, the small ones are tiny and the grow to 4-5mm. The nudibranches are reasonably easy to recognise - look for the gills - fuzzy bits on their backs. My sixline is to fat eating pods and food to worry about these slugs. Drifty
Hmmmm, I only see the big ones, but I have found them in the newly eaten part of the monti so guess it is them
