PENEJANE
Ancistrus claro Its the only one that discribes the markings I have and from the pictures I have seen of the younger ones they look like my one. LDA08 I think is the number thingy for it lol As soon as I manage to get a good enough pic of it I will have to put it up so you can tell me if I have it wrong lol
CatBrat
Hi, If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? Is it a male or a female? Here is a couple of pic's of my pair (does it look like these?).... Male: Female: Cheers, CatBrat.
PENEJANE
the picture I am going by is at planetcatfish.com with that L number thingy. It doesn't look like yours as mine are more odd shaped spots and not squigly lines. But it has a white band at the tail and fin on top of its back. I was mainly going by the description that it had there on how to ID the fish. I paied $7 for it and its only just 2.5 cms long. Have no idea if its M or F yet. Maybe I got it wrong lol  ....... the search continues.
PENEJANE
ummmm this may seem silly but how do I know if my bristlenose is getting enough food?? any tablet things, peas (skin removed) that I put in seem to get eaten by the other fish. How can I be sure that its getting enough. It is found in a different spot of the tank and seems to be well camoflarged against the rock and boat that I have in there. I just want to make sure that it is getting enough food even tho my guppies are being little pigs. On top of the tablets (it gets 1/2 a day) am I able to put in one pea a day or would I be best with a pea or the tablet but not both? Alan
Love to see your pic penejane. But from thatprice youpaid it is a common, run of the mill Ancistrus. Or else the shop has priced it wrongly. Of course IMHO only. Alan
CatBrat
Hi again, From your description it sounds like you have a baby Common Bristle-nose. These normally have a white band on their dorsal and tail fins, and have irregular spots like you said. Also, the price seems about right, and I don't think the LDA08 have been breed in NZ (I may be wrong though). It will hopefully be able to get enough to eat from the scraps of flake etc that fall to the bottom of the tank, but you should also try to put in a piece of Zucchini and sink it to the bottom for it to eat. Cheers, CatBrat.
Snowman
You could try dropping the tablet in after lights out, mine are keener on coming out when it's dark and the other fish aren't so keen on eating when its dark. I give my Gold Ancistrus a piece of Zuchini 40mm long cut in half with the seeds removed and weighted with lead at 11pm and they swarm to it totally covering it, by the morning there's only some holey skin left. PENEJANE
Cheers. Thanks for that. As for the veges I won't be able to get anything untill Tuesday at the earliest. Apart from that I have access to peas (good old frozen vege mix). I will add another pea tonight when I turn the lights out If I can't find Zuchini am I able to use cuecumber?? That is something that I know is available at the store.
Caryl
Cucumber is fine. Courgettes are also ok as is zuchini.
CatBrat
I have used cucumber with my pleco's before, but I found that it went mushy much faster than zuchini does (it may have just been the actual piece I got - too old or something, but I'm not sure). BTW, zuchini and courgettes are the same thing. Cheers, CatBrat.
Caryl
but some people don't know they are the same thing so I mention them separately. My fish woudn't eat courgette but plough into the cucumber. Just as well as cucumber is lots cheaper
PENEJANE
LOL I don't know how to spell either of them and have to copy and paste the word lol but yeah I know that they are the same
CatBrat
LOL Caryl. Oh, funny you mention about your fish only eating the cucumber, because my ones wouldn't touch the cucumber, but distroy the courgette....strange. Cheers, CatBrat. PENEJANE
Well the first pea that I put in there I thought had dissapeared thanks to the guppies but when I took the lid off this morning to feed everyone I noticed it at the back untouched. I also noticed the second pea that I put in there late last night (couldn't find the first one at the time) and it also hasn't been touched. How can I be sure that it will eat the cuecumber or the courgette? I soo hope this little dude or lass is getting enough food. I don't want it to die of starvation. It looks like it is always trying to eat the glass which I guess is it eating the algae off but I also know that it needs more than just algae to survive. PENEJANE
I think its dying This morning it looked like it was having trouble staying stuck to the side of the tank and this afternoon I found it on the bottom of the tank just sitting there flopping about. I rung the pet store and they said that it would be ok for me to put it into the breeding net with the baby guppies. Well I put it in there where the current of the water wasn't going to affect it but I then noticed that the baby guppies were nipping at it and it was only just moving. I feel like a total failer
misnoma
ammonia test the water... sometime about yesterday.. or take some to the fish store and have em test it before adding more fish. Sorry to hear about your b/n.. losing fish is always crap
PENEJANE
yeah I am going to do that tomorrow. My guppies seem to be fine and swimming about as they usually do. What makes it worse is that my eldest daughter named it White Spotty Dotty fish and that I have just flushed it

PENEJANE
lol Thanks Shelley. I have to say I did ring up my husband at work and have a cry over the phone to him but it can't be helped I guess. As Alan said, next time it might be better if I got a bigger/older one instead one so small as they are prone to water changes. (I think thats what he said) But before I do any of that I want to get a good amount of plants in the tank and get that established first then consider more fish. At present my guppies are still having babies so I am sure that I won't be out of fish
