Juwel monolux 60 light repair

The copper blades inside the end plates of the light fitting sag over time. The light only works if you jiggle the tube and it eventually stops completely. To fix:

(-get an electrician)

-unplug the light from the wall socket and take the whole tank top to a table

-make sure there is good lighting onto the table so that you can see what you are doing

-unscrew the two plastic nuts at the ends of the tube

-remove the tube from the end sockets by pulling it sideways so that the tube's spigots slide out of the socket slots

-use a pair of long-nose pliers to pull the black plastic centre moulding from the socket. It's held in place by a small arrow shaped spigot in the middle of the socket. There will be some initial resistance but it easily pulls away without breaking anything. To do this, put one prong of the pliers in the centre hole of the moulding, and the other prong in the slot alongside

-this will uncover the copper blade arrangement

-inspect the blades carefully and you will see that one or both blades have sagged away from the centre

-use the long-nosed pliers to bend each blade back into position. Twist it from its base.

-repeat with the blades in the other socket

-reassemble, but don't bother to screw the tube nuts back until you have tested the light to see if it now works

-plug the light back in using an RCD, and test while still on the table

-if it's fixed put everything back together and mount on tank using an RCD. Done!
