Benjansss
Hi i was woundering if different types of catfish can breed i have a hoplo and a upside down catfish that never leave each others sides and once the hoplo even came over from the other side of the tank and full on bit my finger when i was trying to get a look at the upside down catfish its super weird because the hoplo is really shy and paceful theres many fish in my tank it could eat and its never eaten one

willyp123
No they cannot, they are completely different species - and therefore cannot breed (even if it were possible, the offspring would be infertile).
Adrienne
Perhaps no one answered because those who viewed your question don't know. Not much point in putting on an angry face! Some plecs may cross breed. As far as your hoplo and upside down catfish go, by using google I found that they come from two different families so that tells me it is unlikely. It also tells me that upside down catfish have never been bred in captivity so that makes it extremely unlikely.

Caryl
They are good friends and just like to hang out together. Such behaviour is not unknown among fish of different species, or other animals for that matter.
