Aracnabat
I have been able to pick up a barely used Eheim 2217 for $20 which I plan on using on a 4 foot tank. Will this be enough for a 230'ish litre tank. I know on paper it is rated for up to 600 litres but I'm not sure if this is the case in reality. Also it is currently missing everything from the quick connect taps onwards. So no intake or outlet fittings at all. I have priced up Eheim replacement parts and unfortunately I can't afford the second mortgage I'll need to pay for them. I'm also not a huge fan or the green pipes etc. I was thinking of getting some Aquaone parts and using those. Google has failed me and I'm not sure which model(s) of Aquaone filters I should be looking at parts for. Does anyone have any recommendations? The intake size of the 2217 is 16/22mm and the output is 12/16mm Cheers
Adrienne
Eheims are good filters. The one you have will move up to 1000 litres of water per hour but that is without media in it. To work out what you need in the way of flow, minimum turnover is 4x per hour, up to 10 so in theory it should cope. Whether it not it does will depend on the media you put in the filter, what you put in the tank in the way of fish, plants, rock layout, and how heavily you stock the tank. As far as hosing goes I think CF500/Aquis 500 for the smaller and CF 700/Aquis 700 for the larger. However it should be the same sized hosing going both ways. I have also sent you a pm. Godly3vil
I think eheim are one company that list the actual flow rate of the filter with media in it, someone correct me if I am wrong?

Thanks for the info Adrienne. At this stage I'll be lightly stocking (or at least very slowly adding stock) the tank so I'll see how it goes. As for the other points nothing is set in concrete yet but I'll keep it in mind. I have double checked and the hosing is definitely 2 different sizes. The intake (bottom of canister) is a few mm larger than the output (top). I think eheim are one company that list the actual flow rate of the filter with media in it, someone correct me if I am wrong? That would be good if that is the case. Adrienne
That would be good I've never purchased a new Eheim so not looked at the box You might need to go to the CF1000 for the bottom hosing if you can't fit the smaller on. I found this which indicates the same size hosing fits https://www.eheimparts.com/display_product.php?pid=2217 but I also found this http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showt ... p?t=179027 which indicates its not although there seems some debate as to which is the larger
alexyay
Regarding spare parts, we used hose taps from bunnings instead of the eheim ($4 each) and they work great - then an aqua one intake and outtake based on the pipes - no way could I afford the parts which cost about the same price as a new filter! Thankfully I still have the taps (just reread my post I wasn't as clear as I could have been). But if I have any issues with the taps I'll probably go down a similar route.
