Bananalobster
Hi again.. I'm trying to pick out some lights for a 120cm long 45 - 55 cm high tank setup for Africans. There will be no plants in the tank so lighting will be purely for viewing. I like the idea of LEDs, but have no experience with them. Would something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/712644709 work ok? Would the blue lights make it too dark? Any reason not to go led at all? I think that one is available in a freshwater version with white instead of the blue leds. Might be worth trying to get that instead. Even that one though, when I was looking and comparing specs, was producing less light per watt than a fluoro a fraction of the price. Trelize
David R suggested these to me http://www.current-usa.com, The Current Freshwater plus is the one he has them on his tank , I really like them but had already ordered mine , I am planning on getting a set of the Currents for my dads Community tank , I thought they were reasonably well priced considering what you can do with them http://www.kensfish.com
camtang
I also have the current LED lights. I think they are great, and notice differnt fish react differently to different lighting colours. I do think a bit of those LED's are gimiky, and thus far I have only really used 3 or 4 different colours unless I am showing off my lights to my friends, then I push EVERY button. David R
I agree some of the features are gimmicky, my arowana certainly doesn't appreciate the 'lightening' mode! However the full spectrum adjustability makes them hands down better than any fixed white or blue/white combo. I very rarely adjust mine now I've found the balance I'm happy with. I have one custom preset with them on about 3/4 of their max brightness, and I turn them up if taking pics or have people viewing the tank, but that is about it. IMO the unit in the first post would most likely be too blue for most FW tanks.
Bananalobster
Hmmm back to the drawing board. I did have reservations about the blue. So do we have some available in New Zealand or will I need to look at getting some shipped from an overseas company?
Bananalobster
Do you think this one would be any better? http://www.trademe.co.nz/713647700 Or does any of the people who got the current ones shipped know the approx cost all up they paid to get them inc delivery? Bananalobster
Yeah that's a good price if I had to go fluro.. Only issue is it's 128 long and I'm skeptical that it will fit on a 120 long tank with wooden hood.. Which sucks because then my only option is going for the 90 long light?! I'm surprised they don't make them slightly shorter so they will actually fit!!
zuri08
if you go for the 90 youl be suprised how much light they put out i had a 60cm one on a four footer and was bloody bright
