I wanted to take a pic to show how different a coral can look under different exposures. This is a pic of the same coral, taken at the same time in the same location. The true colour of this pocillipora is somewhere in the middle of the two. Just goes to show someones tank can look exceptionally better than others by using good photography skills :D

If you want to do it properly...

Take pics in RAW mode (get a camera decent enough to do that), then adjust the white balance on the computer to match your tank (be honest!)

Otherwise... the big thing, find the white balance on your camera, see if you can set it, get a greyscale card ( you can find them to print out on camera sites) and match it to your camera/lighting to get the white balance correct.

Generally white balance is what effects the colour balance, unless you're being bad and playing with exposure (which is generally noticible and only effects brightness, not colour)

cookie - try this... with auto exposure on, point your camera at somewhere bright in the tank and hold the button down half way, move the camera back to your coral and take the shot (needs to be the same focus obviously) - the pic will be darker. point your camera at a darker area in the tank, hold the button half way down, move the camera back to your coral and take the shot - the pic will be lighter.

how did you get all that "rock/corals" ...sorry don't know proper names...sitting on the chair

hahaaa, funny you say that i was at cookie's last night and his "chair" was only just balanced on top of the other rocks :D

the rocks and corals are fixed together with marine safe putty

Thanks Fay.

Yeah, them and the anemone are the best thing I've got.

Just the stupid anemone after a couple of years in a prime viewing location, has moved to a not so visible spot.

Oh well, for something with no brain they do have a mind of their own!
