samuel90
Hey guys, Just wondering about how I would calculate the strength needed/frame design if I wanted to set up a 3x3 tank wall. I would like to run a sump at the base, and would be looking at about 25-30gal tanks. Mainly for holding mothers/fry/grow out. Have done a bit of googling, but can;t seem to find a resource on how to calculate the strength of the timber required, in order to handle the weight of the 9 tanks. Any advice, or directions to sites would be helpful! Thank you

Ira
an aquarium made of wood??? or you mean a base?Base, back, sides. It's relatively common for big tanks. I wouldn't bother for a little 30gallon, probably cost as much as glass.
Flosty
3x3 high with a sump under is getting pretty high. Depending on you tank heights you probably won't fit this in. Even 2 tier high with a sump under and you will be needing a stool to work in your tanks. And you probably need 4x2 on its edge to carry the load with verticals for strength. so you are gonna lose 300 between tanks for framing and work space. You could possibly get away with 3x2 but you will definately need verticals or you will get sagging along the shelves.
ss_boy86
depends on the frame really , my frame is only 4x2 h3 pine at it is very sturdy, i think if you have the right support you can make it hold anything
