calculator
Does any one on here have experience with brewing polypterus? Two of my senegalus have have spawned. Most of the eggs were eaten by my jag, but I managed to save a few on some moss and have moved it to another tank. Does any one know what temperature I should have the tank, and how/what should I feed them if/when they hatch in a few days?
livingart
Same temp as tank, feed sea monkeys and daphnia.
melrick1
Did anything come from the eggs mate?
calculator
No, most of them were eaten as they were laid, and they few that survived went moldy in a few days. I will be trying again after various holidays over summer, and actually separate the fish this time though so that I can get more eggs. calculator
Although I am not 100% sure that the male (albino one) is large enough to be fertilize the eggs yet, but I will keep trying, as breeding and growing out some poly's will be a big accomplishment for me. Insectile
I am pretty sure that I read in a book the other day that Polypterus eggs will carry on and hatch even when mouldy, not sure whether you knew this or not. HTH
calculator
I didn't know that, but I did leave them in there for a week or so after the ones I could see were well moldy, in the hope that there were some that were hidden that were going well, but now they are in the main tank, so they can still hatch, but less chance of them growing up into a big fish due to predation.
