aotealotl Posted November 10, 2013 Report Share Posted November 10, 2013 yeah thats what i always thought, reason for the sarcastic comment above Ambystoma mexicanum are also known as Axolotl, which as long as they stay in their larva stadium (which they will if the environment is ok and they don't get feed with stuff from your local butcher). if they morph they become an unwanted organism here in NZ (still an Axolotl but now a danger for Kiwis and Hochstetters). the Ambystoma tigrinum or Tiger Salamander are from the same family but they go thru with the transformation to an adult salamander. Another variation would be Ambystoma Andersoni. you can interbreed all three, in our case Axolotl female with Tiger or Andersoni sperm, which will give in time some interesting new color variations. would be nice to have this color ?
