Caryl
No they are not herbivorous, although they do like vege stuff. They like a variety of of live and dried foods.
Goldie
'Exotic Tropical Fishes' - axelrod, vorderwinkler, emmens, sculthorpe & pronek suggest that the Labeo Bicolor - Red tailed shark be fed All kinds of live foods, besides some vegetable matter in addition, like lettuce or spinach leaves. Other books say same and some suggest that they will get the algae as well. They sound delightfully playful fish. How are they going?? Kellz
I got it on Saturday... been active ever since I put it in the tank... Been hanging out with my Clown's and swords.. mainly Clowns which I didn't think it would do... Great fish He/she seems to be going for alage... not keen on spirlena tablets yet.. Apprently u have to be careful to block ends of the tanks so they dont fly into them and kill themselves during feeding... Mine doesn't seem to swim THAT fast... Fee
I really like Red Tailed sharks although a small word of warning- a number of books describe them as peaceful with fish of other species, however in my experience this is not always the case- I have had them eating pretty much everything else in the tank and even attacking african cichlids (must have been out of its mind  ). This seems to happen once they get to about 7cm if there are no other Red Tailed sharks for them to "play" with, or if the stocking levels of the tank are low. Kellz
I was always told the are extremely intolerant of its own species? Oh well.. I guess I'll have to deal with that problem if It ever comes to it
Kuhliloach
I have had a similar experience with red tails myself. I found that when they got to a certain size they would attack all the orange and red fish in the tank and would sneek up on other fish and eat the slime of them causing fungus to grow and killing the fish

phillipdoan
i have a few red tailed sharks and they are great! they are about 4inches long, and they basically eat anything that goes in he tank . when i reach down in the tank to rearrange the rocks and do water changes they usually offer me to hold them isn't that great, until they start sucking or kissing it feels strange and weird lol. I have had no experience with their aggressiveness with the other fish but i guess that its because i have more than one. easy solution buy another one, they are pretty cheap in melbourne and are great to keep. john1
Hi Phillip You must be very lucky with your red tailed sharks. My big one constantly chased the little one. Most book say you should only keep one. So there you have it. There are always exceptions to the rule John
