reptilez
Hi I know this has been discussed many times , but I couldn't find anything regarding my area... I live on the beach in Clarks Beach and wanted to know if the water here is safe to use in a Salt Water Aquarium ? thanks heaps Matthew
livingart
if it is clear and tastes salty it should be good gather about 10 mins before high tide

reptilez
if it is clear and tastes salty it should be good gather about 10 mins before high tide ok thanks Livingart ! would you recommend it over ASW ?
livingart
cheaper so long as your vehicle isn't a gas guzzler using it for over 25 years no probs if you are using it for a reef may have to drop salinity a bit and raise calcium and mag
reptilez
I actually live on the beach so I have no problem getting the water ! was hoping to use it for a 100 litre marine tank which I recently purchased
si_sphinx
Down South here I have to bring the water down from 1.028. It will cost roughly $20 - $30 in petrol to get enough water to fill my 800ltr tank (4 trips) Where if I used ASW it would cost $200 - $300 of salt from the LFS. And what ever it would cost to use up my RODI filter canisters.
reptilez
wow , so it really does add up to be cheaper , it is handy that I live on the beach so petrol is next to nothing !
hovmoller
If you want very good water you are not that far from Karioitahi beach (where you can drive onto beach, very important when collecting nsw)

hovmoller
Exposed coast will always be better but I'm sure Clark's beach just before high tide on a clear water day is fine. I get water from takapuna which I'm sure is worse than Clark's beach and fishes seem happy.
