Scarletmonuka
going to look at getting some moss growing on some wood in this new tank set up. Wondering what would be my best option for a low tech system? cheers
Caryl
Best option for what? You just get a bit of moss and tie it to the log. Easy. I have spare moss too if you need some.
Scarletmonuka
haha complete dimwitt when it comes to anything to do with plants or anything along those lines here. obviously its super easy stuff then.. thanks i still have my wood water logging in outside bath at the moment but once thats done i shall be in touch
Sophia
Try to have it near to the light or it may do like mine did and just grow long straight strands up to meet it instead. You don't need to have thick bits of moss, one layer wrapped or tied to the wood is all and it will slowly get attached. With thick lumps the bits that are underneath and don't see the light just die off.

Sophia
if the tank has good lighting it should work. I only tried it in low light tanks, then in a low to moderate light tank but quite near the surface- see my rasbora tank thread in my signature. Scarletmonuka
two normal light bulbs and one pink light (which i am told is good for plant growth?)... lights up the entire tank. and what i have planned for the moss should be at least half way up the tank anyways
livebearer_breeder
I've had entirely different experiences, its grows VERY well when its struggling to see the light, low tech is the way to go with mosses i reckon, Don't put them near the light, they will just grow algae, i always tend to put them in the darker corners of fishtank and they thrive! disgustipated
my java moss went mental with nothing but natural light and bottle ferts. and as godlyevil said, put it in the dark corners of the tank and watch it grow... in nature, moss only really grows in shady, low light places.
