camtang
Is the black dirt looking stuff that I have just noticed on my plants some type of algae? And if it is, what type is it and how do I deal with it. Is it a case of still fine tuning?
the-obstacle
probably bba - increase the co2 should clear it out. It suggests your fert levels aren't quite right yet (too much fert, not enough growth)
camtang
Is it the start of BBA before it goes to the flufy form?
the-obstacle
If it's what I'm thinking from what you've described I'd say yes. Looks like the leaves have got black edges in some cases.

camtang
Thanks, means a lot coming from a guru. I will shut this down once I get the bigger one going. I am growing the swords for that tank and the others plants I will transfer to the pleco tank except for the reds as Idon't think the light will be enough for them in that tank. Insectile
what'll you do with the reds? And what size is the tank again?

TomGilberg
whats your goal when you setup a planted tank? is it to grow planbts or to have a nice aquascape?
camtang
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=64579 Light to medium plants, bit of a wood scape with a few rocks, maybe 3 or 4 diferent types of fish in big size groups. Looking for a slow tranquil type of theme with some nice flashes of colour, with a good balance and a happy tank worth being in my lounge
TomGilberg
cool! id go with lots of crypts i really like impression they give off. and the diversity in them is cool, like balansae-wendtii etc
SamH
I like your style Cam, jungle. Chuck a single dominant hardscape feature (large rock or wood) in there and wait for the plant density to increase and you've got a winner. camtang
I thought crypts were from asia not from the amazon. I like my plan as well. Some thing with out to much plant scape should be easy for maintance.
