Trilobite
My fry have velvet and i was researching it and learnt that copper kills it. Do you think a 10 cent coin in the water will kill it? Or will my fry be affected by the copper as well I'm also blacking out the tank from all light since it has a photosynthetic stage and adding salt. Trilobite
I also have snail rid which is copper sulfate. Would that be better to put in than a piece of copper?
alanmin4304
I am not sure that the new "copper coins" actually contain copper. The old fashioned way to cure velvet was to add a penny or copper wool and remove it when the snails crawl out of the water. A safer way would be to use acriflavine or wunder tonic which is a pea soup of meth blue, malachite green, acriflavine and quinine, most of which will cure velvet. Some fish are very sensitive to copper.
