cryancondor
Hi there, This is the second time I am re-potting these plants. I am trying to source decent clay soil in CHCH area as the topsoil I used previously is too fine and end up 'disappearing'! Does anyone know where I can get some from? Any help would be appreciated. F15hguy
We have been getting good results from using fine river gravel for the lillies in perforated pots with some fertiliser sticks added, this was recommended from the wholesaler and it works wonders, that way they will absorb their food from the water more and help clean your pond. if not then try the Daltons aquatic mix. cryancondor
Thanks a lot. Do lily's not need any 'soil' type media? Do you know if river grave can be used for ranunculus? Cheers
F15hguy
nah, the commercial seller just uses the 2-6mm grade river gravel, and the ranunculus go mental in it
cryancondor
Madness. So they just need something to weight them down?! Thinking about it, I can see how that would work with the ranunculus as they put out so many 'roots' to pick up nutrients out of the water. But you reckon lilys only need to be submerged? Can anyone else verify this?
alanmin4304
I have mine in a holed bucket with potting mix and weighed down with stones. Fine gravel on top to keep the mix in the bucket.
cryancondor
Isn't potting mix too nutrient rich and stuffs up water clarity??
