Black Ghost tank-mates?

We were babysitting a BG. At first I thought he was lovely until he dug up the plants! He hid all day and only really saw him at night. I have seen people put large clear perspex tubing in the front of their tanks for them. I heard they are blind and they go in the tube thinking they are hiding.

You're a gem Mystic :)

What about sand as a substrate? I know it has the tendency to pack down & get pockets of anaerobic gas (or whatever), but I've heard that there's snail's that will burrow into the sand, which stops that from happening?

Or maybe I should just stick with the black gravel I used last time in my 4' tank :P

Yeah, I was thinking sand, 'cause the Black Ghost I used to have spent a lot of time sleeping on the gravel, and 'cause they're scaleless (or so I've heard) I thought sand would be nicer for them... And I want to get some cory's, and sand would be much better for their barbels :D
