kstephenson
Setup my first marine tank this week, pretty happy considering i did it all myself even made the sump from an old tank i had lying around. Need to get rid of the micro bubbles somehow. Any ideas?
livingart
very nice what do you have in the first stage of your sump?
kstephenson
Thanks. At the moment some sand and a bag of carbon i'll put some live rock in there and in the tank when i find some. Oh and a UV filter dont know if it will actually do anything, it was just one i had lying around.
livingart
does your skimmer fit in the first section? does the sand serve a purpose?
kstephenson
It possibly could, would it be better in there? Just seen a few pics where people have had sand and live rock in there just dont have the rock yet. Guess it could help with filtering. livingart
i prefer either no sand or at least 100mm deep i use live rock in there for a pod home and more bacteria in system sand with something sitting on it is just a detritus trap and may cause some anaerobic activity
RUNAS
Hi there, Im no expert by any streach of the imagination, but a coarse filter sponge in the first baffle before your return pump should/could take care of the micro bubbles. Also I found with my tank, if the return pipe in the tank has an anti syphon hole near the top which intermitantly breaks the surface thats a great way to make micro bubbles  Regards RUNAS
spoon
if the micro bubbles are leaving the skimmer , it may be that its not set properly or run in yet failing that a small tube of foam can be but over the skimmer outlet to help reduce the bubbles another cause can be from the water falling to far to the return section this can fixed by putting more water in
kstephenson
Thanks guys its definatly the skimmer making the bubbles you can see them pouring out of the outlets. I've turned the air intake right down for now and i'll let it run for a few days like that, it could be that it just hasnt run in yet.
