Jammos
don't know where to put this. have just noticed that some of my silver dollars have a slight red blemish to the underside of the gill. Is this just a marking, sex difference, age difference, or a disease?? Please help because I cannot find much info on silver dollars Is this because they are not a favoured fish? :-? Caryl
Can't help with the blemish Jammos but most don't have them because they are so destructive when they get bigger and they grow too big.
Ainjil
Hi Jammos - the male silver dollar has a red tinged anal fin which could be what you're looking at. I have two silver dollars - a good site to go to for info is: http://fishprofiles.com and search for your breed of fish. Hope this helps! northland chic
I just went and had a look at mine, the three big ones are reddish on the bottom of the gills. My younger ones don't have this at all. My female gets quite reddish when she is in the mood for some pratice baby making which she does nearly every couple of days. Picks a male and just harrasses him until he gives in. I have one female silver dollar out of 5, how many other people have females?
Jammos
i will have a look as i have never really cared. but if this is the case that will explain alot of the noise they are making at the mo(jumping out of the water)
