livingart
:rotf: there is a website where there is no restraint it gets a bit juvenile sometimes though :sage:

Mirio
Better off using the stuff the fish store stocks. Rummage through for some good pieces. Pretty much 80% + of the people with Tropical reefs did the same thing. ( Get rock from the store, cycle it, etc etc. ) I mean. I guess you can use local rock, but it just isn't worth the trouble IMO.
livingart
rock from the sea is not porous enough and can contain ferric minerals etc coral rock from fresh water set up can contain medications used to treat fish

Could look up instructions for making base rock. It doesn't look too hard and you can make any sizes and shapes you want.
