Duke3d
Who can tell me if there is a "Safe paint" to paint in the same room as a tank. I believe fish have died by actually being in the same room as someone painting it. Does anybody know about water-based paint?
Ira
Most water based paints should be fine as long as you have good ventilation and cover the tank. If you're really worried, you can try running an airline from a pump outside the house or in another room to the tank and covering the top of the tank so no air can get in. You'll just need a small hole or two for the air that's being pumped in to get out. But, that's pretty overkill.
suphew
I have renovated most off my house around fish tanks and never had a problem, just cover your tank, and lots of ventilation
Duke3d
Thanks very much - that gives me a bit of confidence now. Now for the fun bit - painting - any volunteers?? I pay by beer (after the job obviously!!)........
jude
I've just painted the room my tanks are in. I used acrylic paint and when I remembered I covered the tanks - mainly to stop them getting splattered - I'm a messy painter. The fish had no problems at all. They even survived lots of loud hammering close to the tank when my father repaired some floorboards. Cheers Jude
Caryl
Our lounge was re-wallpapered and painted (water based) around the tank with no problem at all.
